LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R: A Review
If you are looking for a versatile and realistic sounding rig library for your TH-U amp simulator, you might want to check out the LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R. This library is created by Live Ready Sound, a company that specializes in capturing the tone of authentic and rare amps and cabinets. The LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R is based on the Metropoulos DVL-1, a modern take on the classic Plexi amps from the 1960s.
The Metropoulos DVL-1 is a two-channel, four-mode amp that can switch between different Plexi eras: 1965, 1966, 1968 and a hot-rodded 1968. The amp has a built-in FET booster and a variac switch for more gain and sag. The LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R captures the sound of this amp through various cabinets, mics and speakers, giving you a total of 144 rigs to choose from.
Some of the cabinets used in this library are:
Matching 2x12 with Creamback H75s
Diamond 4x12 with H75, M25 and V30
Private Jack in a 1960V British 4x12
1961A with V30 4x12
Alnico Gold 4x12
Some of the mics used in this library are:
Shure SM57
Sennheiser MD421
Heil PR20
Sennheiser E609
Beyerdynamic M160
Some of the pedals used to boost the amp are:
Savage Drive
VOP9

FuzzFace
The LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R offers a wide range of tones, from clean and crunchy to heavy and saturated. You can easily dial in your desired sound using the TH-U interface, or tweak the rigs further with the included effects and parameters. The library is compatible with any edition of TH-U that includes the Rig Player, such as TH-U Premium, TH-U Rock, TH-U Metal, TH-U Funk and R&B, TH-U Slate Edition, TH-U Mobile and TH-U SuperCabinet.
The LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R is available for purchase from Overloud's website for รข49.00 (incl. VAT). You can also listen to some audio demos and watch some video reviews on their website. If you are a fan of Plexi tones, you don't want to miss this library.
In this article, we will take a closer look at each of the four modes of the LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R and see what they can offer in terms of tone and versatility. We will also compare them with some of the original Plexi amps and artists that inspired them.
'65 Mode
The '65 Mode is the cleanest and most dynamic mode of the LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R. It is based on the early JTM-45 amps that were used by blues and rock artists like Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Keith Richards and Angus Young. The '65 Mode has a warm, rich and organic tone that responds well to your picking attack and guitar volume. You can get anything from sparkling cleans to crunchy overdrive with this mode, depending on how hard you hit the strings and how much you crank the gain and master knobs. The '65 Mode also works great with pedals, especially boosters and fuzzes, to add more bite and sustain to your sound.
'66 Mode
The '66 Mode is slightly more aggressive and brighter than the '65 Mode. It is based on the later JTM-45/100 amps that were used by Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Jeff Beck and Led Zeppelin. The '66 Mode has more headroom and clarity than the '65 Mode, but also more edge and bite. It can deliver a wide range of tones, from clean and chimey to fat and crunchy, with a smooth midrange and a tight low end. The '66 Mode is ideal for blues-rock, psychedelic rock and classic rock styles, as well as for adding some color and character to your clean tones.
'68 Mode
The '68 Mode is the most famous and sought-after mode of the LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R. It is based on the 1968 Marshall Super Lead Plexi amp that was used by Eddie Van Halen on his legendary first six albums. The '68 Mode has a distinctive brown sound that is rich, harmonically complex, articulate and powerful. It can produce a massive amount of gain and sustain, but also retain clarity and definition. The '68 Mode is perfect for hard rock, heavy metal, shred and rock fusion styles, as well as for creating epic solos and riffs that will make your guitar sing.
Mod Mode
The Mod Mode is the most modern and versatile mode of the LRS Unchained Rig Library-R2R. It is based on the hot-rodded 1968 Plexi amps that were modified by amp gurus like Jose Arredondo, Lee Jackson and John Suhr. The Mod Mode has a boosted gain stage that adds more saturation, compression and sustain to your tone. It also has a switchable variac mode that lowers the voltage of the amp, creating more sag, bloom and touch sensitivity. The Mod Mode can handle any style of music, from blues to metal, with ease and authority. It is also great for experimenting with different tones and effects, as it can adapt to any situation. ec8f644aee
